3rd Vale of Leven Guides
3rd Vale of Leven Guides were first registered in 1949 and therefore there have been guides at St Mungo’s Church for 55 years. We currently have 31 guides. At the heart of guiding we have our promise (which was changed in 2013) and now reads:I promise that
I will do my best,
To be true to myself and develop my beliefs,
To serve the Queen and my community,
To help other people and
To keep the Guide Law
3rd Vale of Leven Guides have many ways in which they keep their promise both at meetings and personally. For a number of years now we have prepared small hampers which we gift to the congregation of St Mungo’s.
Over the years the hampers have included homemade marmalade, homemade soaps, a decorated Christmas candle and a card and other items. We have recently joined with the church in a garden project and we are looking forward to this developing. The project will allow the guides to learn about growing vegetables, fruits and herbs and the seasonal nature of produce and we hope that the produce that we grow can be used by other groups in our community. The guides have a very full program which of course includes earning badges and having the opportunity to have residential experiences through outdoor and indoor camps.
We are hoping to travel to Northern Ireland in July 2015 and we will be having a number of fundraisers to ensure that all the girls who want to attend are able to attend.
At the moment we are unable to welcome any new guides but we do operate a waiting list. We are always keen to hear from any adults who might have skills that they would be willing to share with the guides or could test the guides for particular badges.
